Bobby Lakey lost his vision in an accident in 1978 and has been a user of assistive technology (AT) since then. He works for VFO, the world’s leading AT provider for the visually impaired, for more than 10 years now. He currently directs VFO sales and product support in Texas and surrounding states.
Bobby has assisted numerous organizations, such as Hilton Reservations and Customer Care (HRCC), Bank of America, Microsoft, Marriott, Fidelity Investments, Sears, and government agencies, to create accessible and inclusive applications, develop accessibility programs, and incorporate accessibility into their workplace.
Previously, Bobby worked for Texas Vocational Rehabilitation Services as a counselor and employment and technology specialist. His career in AT began at age 16 as a summer school instructor at the Texas School for the Blind. He started college as a Computer Science major but had to change his degree path because of a lack of computer access. Since facing that barrier, Bobby has dedicated his career to improving conditions for the blind and visually impaired and to engaging with other professionals to make a difference.
